On the other side, another assumption was that, it may be likely that the group members via the medium of music are able to enhance their sense of connection to a degree where they begin to “reflect” instead of ruminating, thus using positive ways to process negative emotions.
The results of the study demonstrated that people with a maladaptive style of coping are more likely to indulge in rumination while listening to music. Such overthinking and negative thinking patterns have the potential to magnify negative emotions. Compared to others, young people with depression are particularly vulnerable to such negative patterns.
